About Dr. Tesser
Paul M. Tesser is a board-certified, fellowship trained ophthalmologist (eye physician and surgeon), specializing in the diagnosis, management, and surgery of complex glaucoma, cataracts, and related diseases. Dr. Tesser has been practicing in St. Louis for more than twenty five years.
Dr. Tesser is a graduate of MIT (The Massachusetts Institute of Technology), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences. He attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook where he received MD and PhD degrees. He was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society as a medical student. His clinical training in ophthalmology includes completing a residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where he served as Chief Resident. He completed his Glaucoma Fellowship training at Washington University in St. Louis.
Dr. Tesser has pursued a professional career committed to exceptional patient care and to the highest standards of professional ethics. Dr. Tesser is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is an active member of the American Glaucoma Society, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Medical Association, and the St. Louis Ophthalmological Society. Dr. Tesser volunteers for the St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired, serving on its Board of Directors.
Dr. Tesser began teaching residents and medical students at Washington University while he was a Fellow and continues to remain involved in education. He attends resident surgeries and directs the glaucoma surgery lab. He was named Washington University Ophthalmology Clinical Teacher of the Year in 2011 and 2017. In 2020, he received a Volunteer Faculty Recognition Award for 25 years of service. Dr. Tesser has also been voted a Best Doctor in St. Louis and Best Doctor in America, each year since 2009.
